About the position

The Senior Actuarial Analyst/Actuary role at Liberty Mutual Insurance focuses on managing gross and net reserves for various specialty lines of business within the Latin America and US region. This position involves significant collaboration with stakeholders across multiple departments, including Underwriting, Finance, and Operations, to provide insights and analyses that enhance underwriting outcomes and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Project and set reserves (gross and net of outwards reinsurance on a US GAAP basis) to support the Chief Reserving Actuary with quarterly reserving analysis.
  • Act as a trusted independent advisor, communicating quarterly reserve analyses with insight and confidence.
  • Identify trends, areas of uncertainty, emerging risks, and macroeconomic factors impacting results, proposing corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to actuarial analysts within the Reserving team.
  • Partner with various departments to develop a common view of underwriting profitability by product, industry, and region.
  • Support process transformation involving tactical and strategic process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop existing and new processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, ensuring timely and accurate deliverables from the Actuarial Function.
  • Provide high-quality professional service underpinned by technical rigor, transparency, and consistency in all responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS) or Society of Actuaries (ASA/FSA) preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience required.
  • Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, and sales.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships effectively.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and train subordinates.
  • Commercial and Specialty Reserving experience with knowledge of various (re)insurance portfolios.
  • Strong IT skills, including advanced knowledge of MS Excel and the MS Office suite; experience with SQL, Power BI, R, or Python is advantageous.
  • Analytical problem solver with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to influence business decisions.

  • Experience from consulting or personal lines is welcomed.
