About the position

The Senior Actuarial Analyst/Actuary role at Liberty Mutual Insurance focuses on managing gross and net reserves for various specialty lines of business within the Latin America and US region. This position involves significant collaboration with stakeholders across multiple departments, providing insights to improve underwriting outcomes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Responsibilities

  • Project and set reserves (gross and net of outwards reinsurance on a US GAAP basis) to support the Chief Reserving Actuary with quarterly reserving analysis.
  • Communicate quarterly reserve analyses with insight and confidence, grounded in technical rigor and objectivity.
  • Provide insights to improve underwriting outcomes by identifying trends, areas of uncertainty, and emerging risks.
  • Train and develop actuarial analysts within the Reserving team.
  • Partner with various departments to develop a common view of underwriting profitability by product, industry, and region.
  • Support process transformation involving tactical and strategic process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop existing and new processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and timely deliverables.
  • Provide high-quality professional service with transparency and consistency in all responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS) or Society of Actuaries (ASA/FSA) preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience required.
  • Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, and claims.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships effectively.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and train subordinates.
  • Experience in Commercial and Specialty Reserving with knowledge of various (re)insurance portfolios.
  • Strong IT skills with advanced knowledge of MS Excel and MS Office; experience with SQL, Power BI, R, or Python is a plus.
  • Analytical problem solver with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience from consulting or personal lines is welcomed.
  • Experience with big data manipulation and visualization software.
