About the position

Kemper is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our team. This position is fully remote, allowing you to work from any US-based home, but you must adhere to Eastern or Central Standard Time hours. As a Senior Actuarial Analyst, you will perform complex pricing analyses and provide actuarial support for filings. Your role will involve preparing and analyzing complex internal management information, working closely with the AVP, Actuary, Actuarial Manager, Actuarial Director, Data Scientists, and Product Managers to develop appropriate pricing and product strategies that align with organizational goals. In this role, you will produce sound rate level indications while demonstrating an intermediate understanding of actuarial ratemaking methodology. You will support the state filing process by preparing actuarial memorandums, filing forms, and corresponding with regulators. Additionally, you will quantify, validate, and prepare proposed rates, pulling and aggregating ratemaking data as needed. With supervision, you will develop recommendations on rates and rating plans to meet the financial objectives of the organization. Your responsibilities will also include performing complex trend analyses, automating and enhancing processes to improve efficiencies, and supporting or leading the development and design of new plans, programs, processes, and products of moderate complexity. You will complete pricing projects and ad-hoc requests while supporting management information to inform business partners about the health of the business. Effective communication with management and business partners is essential, as is adherence to internal and external compliance requirements and standards. Furthermore, you will assist in the development of junior-level staff, contributing to their growth and learning within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Produce sound rate level indications with intermediate understanding of actuarial ratemaking methodology.
  • Support state filing process with actuarial memorandum, actuarial filing forms, correspondence with regulators, measurement of rate impacts, and documentation of analysis.
  • Quantify, validate and prepare proposed rates.
  • Pull, aggregate, and query ratemaking data.
  • With supervision, develop recommendation on rates and rating plan to satisfy financial objectives of the organization.
  • Perform complex trend analysis (e.g. frequency and severity trends).
  • Automate and enhance processes to improve efficiencies.
  • Support and/or lead the development and design of new plans, programs, processes, products up to moderate complexity.
  • Complete pricing projects and ad-hoc requests.
  • Support management information to inform business partners on the health of the business.
  • Communicate effectively with management and business partners.
  • Adhere to internal and external compliance requirements/standards.
  • Assist with the development of junior-level staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics or related field, or the equivalent in related work experience.
  • 4 plus years of experience as an actuarial analyst or quantitative pricing analyst, or related experience; Property & Casualty experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, SQL, SAS, VBA, Python or R required.
  • Successful completion of 5 or more actuarial exams or demonstrates equivalent knowledge.
