About the position

The Senior Actuarial Analyst at Verus Specialty Insurance is responsible for analyzing data to develop and adapt rating methodologies for the company's products. This role involves utilizing various techniques to enhance underwriting results and participating in the determination of reserve estimates for profitability analyses. The analyst will produce regular reports, represent the actuarial department in cross-functional projects, and continuously seek improvements in reporting and actuarial processes.

Responsibilities

• Analyze both internal and external data to adapt and develop rating methodologies for existing company products.
• Use techniques to incorporate new variables in pursuit of a competitive advantage and improved underwriting results.
• Utilize loss development and other methods to participate in the determination of incurred but not reported reserve estimates for profitability analyses.
• Produce regular monthly reports and analyses for the financial close process and to improve underwriting results.
• Represent the needs of the actuarial department on cross-functional projects.
• Constantly seek to improve current reporting and actuarial processes.
• Participate in planning ultimate loss and loss adjustment ratios based on underwriting leadership plans and changes to underwriting guidelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Actuarial Science, Statistics, or Mathematics.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Senior Actuarial Analyst or 2 years as an Actuarial Analyst II.
• ACAS designation required for Senior Actuarial Analyst.
• Proficiency with Microsoft products including Excel and VBA.
• Knowledge of Power BI and SQL Server preferred.
• Familiarity with R and Arius preferred.
• Requires familiarity with basic insurance concepts.
