About the position

The Senior Actuarial Analyst at Liberty Mutual Insurance plays a crucial role in supporting pricing for US Financial Lines and Mortgage profit centers. This position involves in-depth portfolio analysis, maintenance and enhancement of rating models, and the development of monitoring tools to assess business profitability. The analyst will also participate in the reinsurance placement process and respond to ad hoc analysis requests, ensuring clear communication of actuarial results to various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Support pricing for US Financial Lines and Mortgage profit centers.
  • Conduct in-depth portfolio analysis and participate in discussions with Underwriters and Claims personnel regarding profitability and strategic direction.
  • Maintain and enhance existing rating models and develop new models as necessary.
  • Develop monitoring tools to assess business profitability and provide actionable insights.
  • Integrate analytical models into actuarial analyses to drive business profitability.
  • Participate in the reinsurance placement process as necessary.
  • Respond to ad hoc analysis requests from Underwriting, Claims, IT, and senior management.
  • Retrieve, understand, and manipulate data related to assigned projects while maintaining clear documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • Commitment to achieving Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • Passing grades on a minimum of 5 Casualty Actuarial Exams.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in actuarial roles.
  • Solid knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, and sales.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively within and outside the organization.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and train subordinates.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, independent judgment, and critical thinking skills in project execution.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects with minimal direction.
  • Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.) and ability to build models of moderate complexity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data-driven reviews of pricing parameters.
