About the position

The Senior Actuarial Associate / Senior Actuarial Analyst role involves providing actuarial services to develop and implement best-practice actuarial models across the organization. The position is responsible for maintaining the organization's rate structure, ensuring adequate reserves, and developing new products. The role requires data and analytic expertise to support various actuarial services, including financial reporting and claims liability estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate product line performance and assess the risk and appropriateness of assumptions used in product development.
  • Initiate and design high-priority primary research activities on behalf of clients.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and influence change.
  • Manage projects that require complex planning and direction setting with diverse stakeholders.
  • Analyze financial risks for various asset/liability matching scenarios and monitor reserve appropriateness.
  • Serve as an expert on the current health care market.
  • Identify key gaps in knowledge and needed research for the Program and Regions.
  • Guide clients away from redundant, non-strategic, cost-ineffective research.
  • Set priorities for all ad-hoc projects and analyses with key clients.
  • Assist clients in strategic planning, marketplace analysis, estimating growth potential, product research, and service performance improvements.
  • Make initial determinations on reserves, dividend allocations, and surplus forecasts.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of actuarial experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, or computer science.
  • Membership in the Society of Actuaries with the designation of ASA (Associate).
  • Ability to manage large, complex projects and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to apply advanced actuarial methodologies to solve business problems.
  • Strong familiarity with internal and external statistical plans and data sources.
