About the position

The Artificial Intelligence Engineer position at SEI involves utilizing advanced statistics, data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to address cyber security challenges for government and industry clients. The role includes collaborating with customers to identify problems, developing prototype solutions, and finalizing products. Engineers will co-author research proposals, execute studies, build models, and present findings to Department of Defense sponsors and at academic conferences. The position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, including experimental designs for cyber security research, human-in-the-loop machine learning, and generative AI applications.

Responsibilities

  • Identify areas where advanced statistical techniques can help tackle cyber security problems.
  • Plan and develop prototype solutions for identified challenges.
  • Build out final products based on prototypes and research findings.
  • Co-author research proposals and execute studies related to cyber security.
  • Build models and present findings to DoD sponsors and at academic conferences.
  • Work on experimental designs for large-scale cyber security research programs.
  • Research human-in-the-loop machine learning and build classifiers for security vulnerabilities.
  • Engage in projects involving generative AI, large language models, and data visualization.

Requirements

  • BS in computer science, machine learning, data science, statistics, or related highly-quantitative discipline with ten (10) years of experience; or MS with eight (8) years; or PhD with five (5) years of experience.
  • Willingness to complete modest travel to various locations to support SEI's mission.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.
  • Currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in predictive modeling, data science, or machine learning.
  • Experience applying software engineering techniques in solution development.
  • Experience in cybersecurity is a plus.
  • Knowledge of generative AI and large language models would be beneficial, but not required.
  • Experience supporting test and evaluation for large-scale government research programs is a plus.
