About the position

Verizon is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior AI/ML Engineer to lead the AI Industrialization efforts within the organization. This role is pivotal in providing technology leadership and facilitating discussions with teams across Enterprise Architecture, Data Science, and Data Engineering. As a subject matter expert, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of the latest industry trends to enhance the organization's systems and processes related to various AI practices, including Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Responsible AI, Generative AI, Natural Language Processing, and Computer Vision. In this position, you will spearhead the initiative to industrialize AI/ML model development, which encompasses feature engineering, model validation, deployment, and observability in both real-time and batch environments. Your responsibilities will include leading the study and transformation of data science prototypes, researching and implementing suitable ML algorithms and tools, and consolidating new concepts and processes in areas such as information retrieval, distributed computing, and large-scale system design. You will also set standards for datasets and data representation methods, extend existing ML libraries and frameworks, and determine processes for running machine learning tests and experiments. Additionally, you will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve machine learning system software while establishing the strategy for ML/AI tools and processes to meet future business needs. Collaboration with stakeholders across various business units will be essential to define an overall plan for model governance and inventory tracking.

Responsibilities

  • Lead AI Industrialization efforts for Verizon.
  • Provide technology leadership and drive discussions with Enterprise Architecture, Data Science, and Data Engineering teams.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Responsible AI, Generative AI, Natural Language Processing, and Computer Vision.
  • Industrialize AI/ML model development, feature engineering, model validation, deployment, and observability.
  • Research, design, and implement appropriate ML algorithms and tools.
  • Consolidate and implement new concepts and processes in information retrieval, distributed computing, and large-scale system design.
  • Set standards for datasets and data representation methods.
  • Extend existing ML libraries and frameworks.
  • Determine processes and standards for running machine learning tests and experiments.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve machine learning system software.
  • Set strategy for ML/AI tools and processes, determining future business needs.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define plans for model governance and inventory tracking.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience in AI/ML.
  • Advanced knowledge of Machine Learning processes, tools, and systems.
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience with ML Engineering techniques and tools.
  • Hands-on experience with modeling platforms and tools like Domino, Jupyter, H2O.ai, DataRobot, Conda, ML Flow.
  • Business domain knowledge such as churn management, personalization, and upsell/cross-sell of Verizon products.

Nice-to-haves

  • Deep understanding of Data wrangling, feature engineering, and creating scalable Data pipelines.
  • Experience with database technologies like NoSQL, RDBMS, Graph DBs, Presto, Hive, MongoDB, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, Teradata.
  • Experience with designing and implementing complex enterprise systems including logging, monitoring, scheduling, CI/CD pipelining, and code repositories.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or similar cloud solutions (Google Cloud Platform preferred).
  • Proficient in Big Data Technologies, Data Transport (Pulsar/Kafka), Spark, Jupyter/Python.
  • Experience with languages like Core Java, J2EE, JSP, Servlet, Node.js, Angular, Python, R, Scala, SQL in UNIX/Hadoop environments.
  • Expertise with large containerized environments utilizing Kubernetes, Docker, APIGEE.
