The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Senior AI Researcher in Remote Sensing Applications to join the Complex Systems Group within the Research & Exploratory Development Department. This position is ideal for individuals who are experts in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), or computer vision and are passionate about how these technologies are transforming remote sensing and Earth observation. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading and supporting research projects aimed at enhancing the intelligence derived from multimodal data, particularly satellite imagery, to address pressing issues such as climate change and its implications for national and international security. In this role, you will contribute to and lead research initiatives that leverage AI and ML to improve our understanding of rapid climate changes and their impact on human activities. You will utilize your expertise in deep learning, computer vision, satellite image analysis, and information fusion to tackle challenges defined by sponsor requirements. The position also involves cultivating a long-term vision for your research interests and collaborating on technical proposals to realize that vision. You will work closely with other APL researchers to expand and define the AI research portfolio within the broader context of intelligence and environmental resilience. Effective communication of research outcomes is crucial, as you will be expected to present findings to internal management, sponsors, and the scientific community through various mediums, including papers, presentations, and technical reports.
