About the position

The Senior AI Science Engineer at Verizon is responsible for driving profitable growth and business innovation through the application of advanced machine learning techniques and AI technology. This role involves independently leading data science projects aimed at enhancing product personalization, marketing effectiveness, and operational efficiency. The engineer will collaborate with a team of data scientists, Big Data engineers, and software developers to develop and deliver next-generation AI/ML solutions, while also presenting findings to various business partners.

Responsibilities

• Independently work on data science projects and deliver innovative technical solutions to solve problems and improve business outcomes.
• Complete the design and development of machine learning/deep learning models and ensure best performance.
• Work closely with machine learning engineers to deploy models in production both in real time and in batch process and systematically track model performance.
• Assist engagement with key business stakeholders in discussions on business strategies and opportunities.
• Build strong working relationships and develop deep partnerships with the business.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on machine learning and predictive modeling.
• Drive technical innovation through active research and applications of new theories, techniques, and technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Four or more years of relevant work experience.
• 3+ years experience in practicing machine learning, deep learning, and data science in business.
• Solid foundational quantitative knowledge and skills; extensive training in math, statistics, computer science, data science, physical science, engineering, or other related fields.
• 3+ years of experience in developing models and algorithms independently, writing your own code, developing strategy for algorithmic experimentation, and deploying the model in production.
• Knowledge of AI/ML models, frameworks (pytorch, tensorflow, etc.) and libraries/packages/APIs (e.g., scikit).
• Experience in data management and data analysis skills. Strong expertise in SQL skills.
• Hands-on computing/programming skills; proficient in Python, Pyspark, and Linux Shell script.

Nice-to-haves

• A Master or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Economics, Engineering, Business Analytics, Data Science or a related field is preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in scaling AI in areas like personalization, Deep learning, NLP, computer vision, Generative AI, etc.
• Ability to explain both the code and the underlying math used in algorithms/models.
• Experience in both batch and streaming models in production.
• Experience in Hadoop, Google Cloud Platform, AWS or other distributed compute services.
• Strong communication skills.
• Good cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
