About the position

Genentech is seeking a highly motivated Senior AI Scientist to join the BRAID department, DELTA team, focused on advancing deep learning research to accelerate drug and target discovery. The role involves leading research on multimodal representation learning, generative modeling, and large language modeling, with an emphasis on real-world impact in drug discovery. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams and is expected to publish in top-tier machine learning and scientific venues.

Responsibilities

• Drive the research and development of novel deep learning methods to accelerate drug discovery and target discovery efforts.
• Lead a research agenda focused on multimodal representation learning, generative modeling, and large language modeling.
• Collaborate with AI scientists, ML engineers, and computational biologists/chemists in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Scale ML models to large scientific datasets and address engineering challenges to support new scientific questions.
• Regularly publish research findings in top-tier ML venues and scientific journals, and present results at conferences and workshops.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Excellent knowledge of deep learning theory and practice, demonstrated through past projects or publications.
• Proficient in Python and PyTorch, with strong software engineering, data engineering, and MLOps skills.
• Strong background in statistics, probabilistic modeling, and data analysis.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, able to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Strong publication record at top-tier ML venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, KDD, ACL, EMNLP.
