About the position

The Senior AMS Database Programmer Analyst at CenterPoint Energy is responsible for the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-level software, particularly focusing on Oracle database development and performance tuning. This role involves collaborating with various organizational levels to translate business requirements into technical specifications, ensuring the delivery of new capabilities for electric and gas delivery operations. The position is part of the Advanced Metering System team, which is integral to the company's smart metering and intelligent grid operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced technical support in research, experimentation, business analysis, and use of systems technology.
  • Coordinate with IT/OT groups for current and future plans and activities, including software upgrades and new product installations.
  • Identify areas for policy changes or new policy development in light of business expansion.
  • Communicate effectively with all organizational levels regarding data architecture strategy.
  • Ensure smooth workflow within projects by maintaining communication and overseeing system management.
  • Assist management in budget preparation and monitoring expenses against budgets.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of work by tracking progress and monitoring project milestones.
  • Participate in annual disaster recovery tests and maintain required documentation.
  • Perform deployments, including weekend and weeknight rollouts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline preferred, or equivalent education and experience totaling five years.
  • Five years of experience in information technology, business analytics, project management, or business operations/optimization.
  • Experience with Advanced Metering Systems, Outage Management Systems, or Control Systems is preferred.
  • Required technology experience: Oracle PL/SQL, Linux, application/database performance tuning, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
  • Preferred technology experience: Python, Java, JMS, XML, REST, MS Visual Studio, Web Services, SOAP, .NET C#.
  • Working knowledge of Process Architecture and software implementation lifecycle.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Advanced Metering Systems, Outage Management Systems, and Control Systems.
