About the position

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is seeking a Senior Analyst/Budget Manager to play a pivotal role in the financial management of the institution. This position is primarily responsible for creating, overseeing, and monitoring the Museum's annual and multi-year budgets. This includes budgets related to strategic planning, exhibitions, capital projects, and staffing. The Senior Analyst/Budget Manager will prepare quarterly and year-end budget reports for the board of trustees and museum leadership, ensuring that all financial activities align with the Museum's goals and objectives. In this role, the Senior Analyst/Budget Manager will collaborate closely with the Foundation director of finance and accounting to integrate the foundation's budget with that of the museum. This collaboration extends to division heads and other museum managers and administrators, providing essential budget analysis that aids in strategic decision-making. The position requires a strong analytical mindset, as well as the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to various stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Create, oversee, and monitor the Museum's annual and multi-year budgets.
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end budget reports for the board of trustees and museum leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Foundation director of finance and accounting to integrate the foundation budget with the museum budget.
  • Provide budget analysis to division heads and other Museum managers and administrators to assist in strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with financial systems and reporting processes.

Requirements

  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strategic thinking and proven administrative and planning skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial systems and budget and financial reporting processes.
  • Knowledge of systems used by the state (Cardinal, DPB, eVA, SharePoint).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a decentralized environment.
  • Team building, mentoring, and change management skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP and Government Accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
  • Progressively responsible accounting/financial planning/budgeting experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia or non-profit organizations.
  • Supervisory/management experience.
