About the position

The Senior Analyst, Grants & Budget position is responsible for supporting the Director of Grants Compliance and Budget in managing federal and private grant reporting and analysis. This role involves maintaining grant and budget documents, providing accounting support to various divisions, and assisting in the development and monitoring of division budgets in compliance with federal regulations and organizational policies. The analyst will also engage with the Department of Justice and external auditors as a key financial contact for budget-related matters.

Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation and distribution of monthly project analysis reports for federal and private grants.
  • Assist with compiling documentation for federal grant training and conference activities, including budget requests and final financial report forms.
  • Prepare financial reports and drawdown requests for federal and local grantors.
  • Schedule and participate in departmental financial statement review meetings and assist with project status report distribution.
  • Serve as a liaison with finance and budget managers, responding to budget inquiries.
  • Support the annual and grant budget processes by coordinating schedules and preparing materials as directed by the Director.
  • Develop and maintain budget calendars, instructions, and tools for departments.
  • Conduct initial reviews of department budget estimates for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review the General Ledger for miscoding to unbudgeted sources.
  • Support federal monitoring requests and year-end audits by maintaining clear grant and budget documents.
  • Maintain and update grant funding schedules as assigned.
  • Respond to staff inquiries regarding funding and coding questions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of accounting experience applicable to Federal grant oversight and Uniform Guidance in a similar-sized non-profit.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of accounting theory.
  • Working knowledge of federal grant requirements; experience with Department of Justice awards is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience using a computerized financial system, preferably NetSuite or equivalent with project tracking.
