About the position

The Senior Analyst, Manager Research position at Mariner is a pivotal role within the Investment Management Team, designed for an individual who will serve as an in-house expert on mutual funds, ETFs, and MWA models. This role is essential in supporting advisor inquiries and ensuring that the investment strategies employed are well-researched and aligned with the firm's objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing, researching, monitoring, and making recommendations on various investment strategies, thereby contributing to the overall function of the Investment Management Group. This includes improving the methods and tools utilized in the investment process, ensuring that the firm remains at the forefront of industry standards. In this role, the Senior Analyst will utilize a variety of analytical tools such as Bloomberg, eVestment, Morningstar, and Zephyr to provide comprehensive reports and insights. The candidate will be tasked with developing and generating monthly and quarterly reporting packages, which are crucial for internal assessments and client communications. Furthermore, the position requires effective communication with investment managers to evaluate their investment philosophy, processes, personnel, and performance metrics. The ability to extract and interpret both quantitative and qualitative data is vital for driving informed decision-making within the team. The Senior Analyst will also play a key role in the preparation of materials for investment committee meetings, contributing to the agenda and presenting research findings to the committee, advisors, and clients as necessary. This position not only demands a high level of analytical and problem-solving skills but also requires effective oral and written communication abilities to convey complex information clearly and concisely. The role is hybrid, allowing for a blend of in-office and remote work, which supports a flexible work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform sourcing, researching, monitoring, and making recommendations on investment strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of the overall Investment Management Group function, improving methods and tools utilized.
  • Provide reports from Bloomberg, eVestment, Morningstar, Zephyr, FIRM and other analytical tools.
  • Develop and generate monthly/quarterly reporting packages as required.
  • Communicate with investment managers to evaluate investment philosophy, process, personnel and performance.
  • Extract and interpret both quantitative and qualitative data to help drive decision making.
  • Create and maintain detailed due diligence reports and document ongoing monitoring of investment managers.
  • Use Zephyr, Morningstar Direct, and other analysis tools to assist in investment strategy due diligence.
  • Participate in creation of agenda and preparation of materials for investment committee meetings.
  • Develop and present research findings to our investment committee, advisors and others as needed.
  • Serve as in-house expert on mutual funds/ETFs/MWA models, supporting advisor inquiries as needed.
  • Attend and present at some client investment reviews as needed.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in business-related field required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Progress toward or completion of the CFA preferred.
  • Progress toward or completion of MBA and/or other relevant professional qualifications a plus.
  • Investment or retirement plan-related experience in a professional office environment a plus.
