Responsibilities

  • Perform varied and complex diagnostic and procedural coding for accurate DRG, severity of illness, and risk of mortality assignment.
  • Collaborate with physicians and documentation improvement nurses to ensure accurate coding and documentation.
  • Utilize clinical information systems to access health information in an electronic environment.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICD-10CM & PCS and applicable DRG grouper coding schemes.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.

Requirements

  • College level courses in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • 3-5 years of medical record experience, preferably in an acute care computerized environment.
  • 2-3 years of demonstrated coding experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-10CM & PCS and applicable DRG grouper coding schemes.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with clinical information systems for accessing health information in an electronic environment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
