About the position

As a Senior Analytics Engineer at Workiva, you will develop and deliver critical data and metrics as products to various business functions, fostering a data-driven culture and enabling informed decision-making. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business challenges and provide comprehensive analytical solutions, thereby enhancing organizational productivity and employee experience through innovative technology-driven transformations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the ideation, technical development, and launch of analytical data products including data assets, metrics, BI capabilities, and data-driven decision applications.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify analytical data needs, define data product requirements, and agree on success measures.
  • Synthesize the needs across stakeholders to build common components that can act as multipliers across different functions.
  • Translate analytical data requirements and business logic into efficient, scalable queries and data models.
  • Develop and productionize the analytical data products, including metrics, data tables, data catalog and classification, metrics dictionary and semantic layer.
  • Partner with Data Engineering to ensure development adheres to standard and utilizes the latest technologies.
  • Partner with Data Governance and Management function to ensure data quality, compliance and security are in place at launch and continue maintaining compliance.
  • Engage directly with data users during pre-launch and post-launch to ensure the analytical data product will help them reach their desired business outcomes.
  • Develop and conduct data user enablement content and sessions; optimize and continuously improve data user experience.
  • Explore and implement integration and automation capabilities to continuously reduce time to insights, drive data and analytical efficiency, and improve data ROI.
  • Be the expert on analytical data assets and applications.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of Workiva products through a commitment to ongoing training.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in a similar role, including data engineering, BI development, or experience in analytics, business analysis or comparable consumer analytics solutions.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Finance, Statistics or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience using dbt for data transformation and modeling, including the ability to write and manage SQL models.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2-3 years of previous analytical/data science experience strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in data mining, SQL (including query design and tuning for performance), and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence reporting tools (e.g., QuickSight, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience with Python, R, or other relevant scripting languages preferred.
  • Experience in designing and implementing data models for relational and non-relational databases, including both conceptual and physical modeling.
  • Extensive knowledge of customer relationship management (CRM) tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot), specifically in report design, dashboard design, and custom objects.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data warehousing solutions (e.g., AWS Redshift, Databricks, Snowflake).
  • Proficient research skills to locate market information using various internal and external data sources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills to prioritize projects and ensure data is delivered accurately and understandably.
  • Familiarity with data structures and schemas from various systems (ERP, GRC, GL) and an understanding of API design philosophy/patterns and communication protocols (SOAP, REST, JSON, XML).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
