About the position
The Senior API Engineer at PayNearMe will be responsible for optimizing and extending the company's APIs, ensuring high performance and efficiency. This role requires a blend of analytical skills, coding expertise, and the ability to collaborate with various teams. The engineer will own the OpenAPI specification, implement OAuth 2.0 for clients, and work on redesigning APIs for scalability and simplicity.
Responsibilities
- Own the APIs and optimize their performance.
- Build performance tests for high-usage API calls using K6.
- Tune API calls for efficiency, including caching and reader nodes.
- Ensure sufficient logging and monitoring using Datadog.
- Implement OAuth 2.0 for all clients through Kong.
- Maintain and update the OpenAPI specification for APIs.
- Point ReadMe at a separate deployment and install an authentication system for clients.
- Redesign APIs for simplicity, modularity, and speed, focusing on horizontal scaling.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of Ruby on Rails experience.
- Proficient in Javascript for performance testing.
- Experience building high-throughput Ruby/Rails back-ends.
- Familiarity with OpenAPI and Kong.
- Knowledge of query optimization and web stack tuning.
- Experience writing instrumented code for monitoring with Datadog.
- Understanding of software performance impacts such as locking and network latency.
- Ability to facilitate technical discussions in a distributed team environment.
- Familiarity with the AWS ecosystem.
- Experience serving as a Tech-Lead.
