About the position

The Senior Application Developer at Milliman, Inc. is responsible for building scalable, high-performance applications, either as an individual contributor or a technical lead. This role focuses on developing efficient and secure applications that meet product requirements and strategic objectives, requiring advanced proficiency in programming languages and software engineering principles. The ideal candidate will be a versatile problem-solver, capable of navigating the entire software stack and driving continuous improvements in application performance and user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design applications to align with product requirements and user needs.
  • Develop and maintain efficient, reliable, and scalable applications.
  • Ensure applications comply with security best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Identify and resolve application performance issues to enhance the user experience.
  • Continuously enhance the codebase, integrating new technologies where beneficial.
  • Gather and analyze usage data and client feedback to refine application features.
  • Provide technical support and share expertise to guide the team.
  • Automate testing to ensure application functionality and performance.
  • Document applications thoroughly to support future enhancements and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in application development.
  • Intermediate proficiency with technologies such as: C#, React, ASP.NET, MVC, XML, JSON, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and jQuery.
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture frameworks and design patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud technologies.
  • Familiarity with big data tools (e.g., Databricks, Azure Synapse) for managing large data sets.
  • Experience with reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Background in systems methodologies.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, sound judgment and clear decision-making ability.
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative mindset and a desire to mentor team members.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Proven track record in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
  • Deep understanding of software development lifecycle.
  • Experience with source code management systems.
