About the position

The Senior Application Engineer at Generac is a key technical resource responsible for architecting microgrid designs for various customer sites in California. This role involves collaboration with go-to-market partners, conducting site assessments, detailing technical specifications, and ensuring seamless integration of Generac's energy storage products with other systems. The engineer will also develop commercial tools for project execution and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct customer site walks and detail technical specifications for microgrid designs.
  • Draft and critique one-line diagrams and layout sequences of operations.
  • Provide technical support for integrating Generac products with third-party equipment.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with customers, specifying engineers, and distribution partners.
  • Develop and own commercial tools for storage sizing and energy system modeling.
  • Train the commercial team on utilizing the toolkit for project quoting and proposal development.
  • Maintain an interconnection and permitting toolkit for easier project execution in California.
  • Develop a solid understanding of distributed energy systems architecture and ensure product integration with energy management software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably electrical.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical and mechanical control systems.
  • 5+ years in applications engineering or technical solutions role focused on energy storage and microgrid systems.
  • 5+ years executing energy storage and solar projects in California, with knowledge of utility interconnect and AHJ permitting requirements.
  • 5+ years working with sales and project management teams in a technical sales enablement role.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% to visit customer sites.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems or power electronics.
  • Excellent understanding of distributed energy systems architecture and energy storage applications.
  • Experience developing and maintaining commercial tools related to energy storage and project quoting.
  • Project management experience.
