About the position

The Senior Application Engineer at Smart Wires plays a crucial role in educating customers about modular Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) solutions and facilitating project execution to accelerate the energy transition. This position involves engaging with customers primarily in North America, ensuring they understand Smart Wires products and solutions, and supporting the deployment of these technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary product expert throughout the sales and project delivery process, focusing on customer engagement in North America.
  • Educate customers and stakeholders on Smart Wires products and solutions, both in-person and virtually.
  • Review and approve updated product documentation, including spec sheets, manuals, and application guides.
  • Conduct site-specific studies for various applications of Smart Wires products, such as O&M cost projections and noise emissions studies.
  • Develop, review, and approve technical reports to support product development, sales, and deployment processes.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to represent customer technical needs during the new product introduction process.
  • Represent Smart Wires products in industry and academic working groups.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, preferably with an emphasis in Power Systems and/or Power Electronics.
  • Minimum 5 years of related industry experience, preferably in the design, testing, deployment, and/or management of transmission assets.
  • Excellent technical written communication and verbal presentation skills in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in global teams.
  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and manage ambiguity and competing priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • History working for a utility, power-system consultant, or power-system equipment vendor.
  • Experience with FACTS or HVDC, power electronics, SCADA, EMS, power-system protection and control, or HV substation design.
  • Knowledge of IEEE and/or IEC standards for high-voltage equipment.
  • Experience applying machine learning to internal processes.
