About the position

The Senior Application Engineer at Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) plays a crucial role in the implementation and ongoing support of complex business applications, specifically focusing on the Physical Security Systems of the University. This position requires a technically proficient individual who can lead projects, ensure operational efficiency, and provide mentorship to junior team members while collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver effective solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical projects related to Physical Security Systems.
  • Contribute significantly to project work and ensure successful delivery.
  • Engage with customers, vendors, and HUIT partners to facilitate project discussions.
  • Provide direction and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Ensure applications operate adequately and meet service level expectations.
  • Complete IT preventative maintenance tasks for responsible systems.
  • Model good leadership behaviors and mentor others in best practices.
  • Engage in forums and conferences to share expertise and learn from peers.
  • Support leadership in strategy and roadmap development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (written, oral, and presentation).
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical clients and business partners.
  • Experience with cloud-hosted environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated team performance skills and service mindset.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferred.
