About the position

The Senior Application Engineer at ZF CV Systems North America LLC is responsible for application engineering activities related to European Air Dryer systems in the North American market. This role involves providing support for new vehicle applications, compressor applications, and ensuring timely product launches while adhering to engineering standards and customer requirements. The position requires collaboration with vehicle OEMs, technical input gathering, and validation testing, along with field issue investigations and cost-saving initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform application engineering activities for European Air Dryer systems in the North American market.
  • Provide new vehicle application support for e-compressors.
  • Support compressor application for the North American market.
  • Obtain gate approvals and support timely product launches.
  • Support application process (PEP) for vehicle OEMs and models that did not previously include ZF air dryer.
  • Work in accordance with WT0218, including getting technical input from customers, estimating engineering hours, performing gap analysis, and document exchange.
  • Conduct lab validation testing and prototype builds, and manage vehicle drawing releases and customer plant audits.
  • Parameterize Dryer ECU for vehicles and conduct vehicle test & validation for European Air Dryer systems in the North American market.
  • Modify dryer parameters per customer requirements, program parameters into ECU, and release parameters into production.
  • Verify/validate diagnostic requirements and functional safety & cyber security functions.
  • Investigate field issues for dryers & compressors in the North American market, including reviewing warranty claims and conducting lab tests.
  • Lead VAVE, CRP, & supplier changes for cost savings that do not affect product quality.
  • Conduct reporting, meetings, and related administrative tasks, including reviewing others' work and meeting with customers to support new business opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field, plus 6 years of experience (or master's degree in mechanical engineering with 4 years of experience) in mechanical engineering for brake systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with the interactions of all truck sub-systems.
  • Experience with complete air and hydraulic brake systems.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations (specifically FMVSS-121) associated with air and hydraulic brake systems.
  • Proficiency in engineering calculations and common calculation software tools (including Microsoft Excel, MatLab, & Python).
  • Experience with software simulation tools and hardware in the loop software (including air flow-Discovery or Truck-Sim).
  • Ability to design and analyze components using CREO software and perform FEA's using CREO software.
  • Familiarity with Windchill software and performing DFMEAs.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, electrical circuits and schematics, and wire harness design.
  • Experience in programming for modifying ECU parameters and troubleshooting diagnostic codes and related electrical malfunctions.
  • Skills in data collection & analysis and data acquisition systems (including Vector-CANalyzer, DEWESOFT & DEWETRON, Advantech's DESY Lab, VBOX or National Instruments tools).
  • Experience in instrumenting vehicles and recording and analyzing resulting data for root cause analysis.
  • Must possess a valid CDL.
