About the position

The Senior Applications Developer plays a crucial role in the Application Development & Operations team within the University Libraries IT Division at The Ohio State University. This position is responsible for the end-to-end development and delivery of specialized library and administrative systems, facilitating the Libraries' mission to share knowledge and culture. The developer collaborates with various stakeholders to define business and technical requirements, ensuring adherence to standards for data security, code quality, and digital accessibility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver specialized library and administrative systems.
  • Collaborate with product owners, project managers, and team members to define business and technical requirements.
  • Propose and implement solutions that meet data security, code quality, and digital accessibility standards.
  • Provide technical support and maintain existing open-source and custom applications.
  • Investigate problems, conduct root-cause analyses, and recommend fixes.
  • Participate in weekly maintenance windows.
  • Promote organizational values of Discovery, Connection, Equity, Integrity, and Stewardship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in application or web development.
  • Fluency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Ruby, Python, PHP).
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Vue, Angular, React).
  • Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
  • Proficiency with Git and version control best practices.
  • Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with application containerization (e.g., Docker).
  • Experience with search and indexing engines (e.g., Elasticsearch, Solr).
  • Experience working in an Agile or DevOps environment.
  • Familiarity with core AWS services.
