About the position

The Senior Applications Engineer - Finance is a pivotal role within a law firm, responsible for overseeing and managing several critical applications and platforms utilized by the Finance team. This position requires a deep understanding of the firm's financial workflows and the technical expertise to support and enhance various enterprise solutions, including Elite 3E, Design Gallery, Chrome River, eBillingHub, IntApp Time, Proforma Tracker, and Star Collect. The Senior Applications Engineer will act as the IT owner of these systems, ensuring their health, stability, and alignment with the firm's strategic goals. In this role, the Senior Applications Engineer will partner closely with IT leadership and business stakeholders to define future strategies and enhance the capabilities of existing tools. This includes leading planning and implementation efforts for new solutions, as well as managing upgrades and enhancements to current applications. The engineer will serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical support and guidance to both the Finance team and IT staff, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally and meeting the needs of the business. The position also involves monitoring and reporting on system performance and capacity, conducting capacity planning, and maintaining accurate architecture and support documentation. The Senior Applications Engineer will collaborate with various IT teams to deliver enhancements and new capabilities, while also adhering to IT's Change Management, SDLC, and incident management processes. Additionally, this role includes coaching junior analysts and working with Quality Assurance on testing procedures and remediation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • IT owner of several enterprise solutions owned by the Finance team
  • Act as the IT liaison for Finance, requiring a sound understanding of law firm finance workflows and needs
  • Work on application implementations, upgrades, enhancements, troubleshooting, and roadmaps
  • Provide direct oversight and management of various solutions as assigned
  • Act as subject matter expert for those systems and provide technical support as needed
  • Ensure the health and stability of all solutions owned
  • Perform analysis of processes, application features and configurations, end user questions, etc.
  • Build, maintain and advance a strong relationship with Elite, IntApp, and other vendors
  • Monitor, track, and report on performance and capacity; responsible for capacity planning
  • Work with relevant IT teams in developing and delivering enhancements and new capabilities
  • Deliver recommendations to the business and IT leadership based on an understanding of the platform, roadmap and related business drivers
  • Maintain current and accurate architecture and support documentation for use by both engineering teams and support staff
  • Adhere to and participate in IT's Change Management, SDLC and incident management processes
  • Collaborate in the creation and use of training and Quality Assurance materials and activities for applications supported
  • Provide coaching to junior analysts
  • Work with Quality Assurance on test scripts, procedures, and remediation.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years' Foundation experience and equivalent working with CRM solutions required
  • At least 7 years' of information technology experience required
  • At least 5 years' experience working with and supporting enterprise platforms required
  • At least 3 years' executive level engagement and customer service preferred
  • At least 3 years' of experience in a professional services or legal environment preferred
  • Possess strong communication, organization, negotiation, critical thinking, and leadership skills
  • Exceptional customer service and collaboration abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of multi-tier architecture including servers, databases, proxies, load balancing, trust/access rights, certificates, and integrations
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server including IIS, services, scheduled tasks, logging, and configurations
  • Knowledge of system integrations including APIs, web services, FTP, and database to database
  • Ability to manage monitoring, backups, HA, BC, DR, patching, and admin tools
  • Ability to work with desktop and mobile applications for their installation and configurations
  • Ability to work with SQL Server, SQL development/queries, and reporting tools
  • Ability to work with project management on plans, tasks, and resource management and tools such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell
  • Familiarity with security best practices and procedures
  • Familiarity with data governance best practices and procedures.
