About the position

The Senior Applications Engineer - Marketing Technologies is a pivotal role within a law firm, responsible for acting as the IT owner of several applications and platforms utilized by the firm's Business Development team. This includes overseeing systems such as CRM and experience management solutions. The position requires a highly skilled technical professional who will manage the day-to-day operations, support, and administration of these assigned systems. The Senior Applications Engineer will collaborate closely with IT leadership and business stakeholders to define future strategies and enhance the capabilities of existing tools, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of the firm. In this role, the engineer will be tasked with application implementations, upgrades, enhancements, troubleshooting, and developing roadmaps for the various solutions. They will provide direct oversight and management of these systems, acting as a subject matter expert and offering technical support as needed. A critical aspect of the position is to ensure the health and stability of all solutions owned, which involves understanding the workflows and needs of the business development team to perform thorough analyses of processes, application features, configurations, and end-user inquiries. The Senior Applications Engineer will also be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with vendors such as Litera and IntApp, understanding their offerings, and demonstrating a solid knowledge of the MarTech and Business Development space. They will monitor, track, and report on performance and capacity, taking charge of capacity planning and working with relevant IT teams to develop and deliver enhancements and new capabilities. Recommendations will be made to both business and IT leadership based on a comprehensive understanding of the platforms, roadmaps, and related business drivers. Additionally, the engineer will maintain accurate architecture and support documentation for engineering teams and support staff, participate in IT's Change Management, SDLC, and incident management processes, and collaborate in creating training and Quality Assurance materials. Coaching junior analysts and working with Quality Assurance on test scripts and procedures will also be part of their responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as IT owner of several enterprise solutions owned by the Business Development team.
  • Serve as the IT liaison for Business Development, requiring a sound understanding of law firm business development workflows and needs.
  • Work on application implementations, upgrades, enhancements, troubleshooting, and roadmaps.
  • Provide direct oversight and management of various solutions, as assigned.
  • Act as subject matter expert for those systems and provide technical support as needed.
  • Ensure the health and stability of all solutions owned.
  • Analyze processes, application features, configurations, and end user questions by speaking the language of the business development team.
  • Build, maintain, and advance a strong relationship with vendors such as Litera and IntApp.
  • Understand the roadmap for specific offerings and demonstrate strong knowledge of the MarTech/Business Development space.
  • Monitor, track, and report on performance and capacity; responsible for capacity planning.
  • Collaborate with relevant IT teams in developing and delivering enhancements and new capabilities.
  • Deliver recommendations to business and IT leadership based on an understanding of the platform, roadmap, and related business drivers.
  • Maintain current and accurate architecture and support documentation for use by both engineering teams and support staff.
  • Participate in IT's Change Management, SDLC, and incident management processes.
  • Collaborate in the creation and use of training and Quality Assurance materials and activities for applications supported.
  • Provide coaching to junior analysts.
  • Work with Quality Assurance on test scripts, procedures, and remediation.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years' Foundation experience and equivalent working with CRM solutions (required).
  • At least 7 years' of information technology experience (required).
  • At least 5 years' experience working with and supporting enterprise platforms (required).
  • At least 3 years' executive level engagement and customer service (preferred).
  • At least 3 years' of experience in a professional services or legal environment (preferred).
  • Possess strong communication, organization, negotiation, critical thinking, and leadership skills as well as exceptional customer service and collaboration abilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of multi-tier architecture including servers, databases, proxies, load balancing, trust/access rights, certificates, and integrations.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server including IIS, services, scheduled tasks, logging, and configurations.
  • Knowledge of system integrations including APIs, web services, FTP, and database to database.
  • Ability to manage monitoring, backups, HA, BC, DR, patching, and admin tools.
  • Ability to work with desktop and mobile applications for their installation and configurations.
  • Ability to work with SQL Server, SQL development/queries, and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work with project management on plans, tasks, and resource management and tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with security best practices and procedures.
  • Familiarity with data governance best practices and procedures.
