Montrose Environmental Group Inc. is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to join our team in Bloomington, Minnesota or San Diego, California. The Senior Applications Engineer will play a crucial role in building conceptual designs for biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) projects, supporting business development efforts, and collaborating with various teams to ensure project success. In this role, you will report to the Director of Engineering - Biogas and work closely with the engineering, business development, and project delivery teams. Your responsibilities will include generating conceptual design solutions for anaerobic digestion biogas projects, ensuring alignment with customer requests and technical specifications. You will utilize process engineering principles to design treatment solutions that meet or exceed project criteria, conduct preliminary cost estimates, and lead the proposal development process. Additionally, you will be responsible for identifying strategic partners and qualifying leads to support business growth. Responsibilities

  • Build conceptual designs for biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) projects.
  • Support business development efforts by collaborating with engineering and project delivery teams.
  • Utilize process engineering principles to design treatment solutions that meet customer project criteria.
  • Conduct preliminary project capital expense (CAPEX) and operating expense (OPEX) estimates.
  • Lead the customer proposal development process, defining scope and commercial details.
  • Evaluate customer requests and align technical designs with commercial strategies.
  • Identify areas of risk and information gaps prior to the next design phase.
  • Provide process engineering support and lead technical handover to the design engineering team.
  • Develop solutions for clients by leveraging technical resources within the biogas/RNG team.
  • Attend conferences and trade shows to represent Montrose and identify new opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in an engineering field; minimum 2+ years with direct biogas/RNG experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets, databases, and Microsoft Office software.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and technical communication skills.
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed (minimum 25%).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or higher degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • PE licensure or ability to achieve PE within one (1) year.
