About the position

The Senior Applications Engineer position is a critical role within the Information Systems department, operating under the general direction of the Application Manager. This role involves performing high-level technical systems analysis and programming across various specialized phases of applications. The engineer will act independently, preparing detailed specifications from which programs will be developed, while also ensuring a thorough understanding of customer needs and processes to maximize automation and system availability. The responsibilities include program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation, all adhering to departmental standards. In this position, the Senior Applications Engineer will collaborate with other Information System teams to ensure optimal performance of the underlying technical infrastructure and software utilization. The role is integral to a multi-disciplinary team approach for the selection and implementation of new or upgraded systems. The engineer will participate in application development, modifications of existing and new systems, and provide customer support, consulting, and information dissemination to various departments and management within the organization. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work effectively under pressure. The engineer will support departmental and organizational processes, ensuring timely customer support and problem resolution to maintain maximum system availability. This includes appropriate escalation of critical issues as necessary, and the execution of high-quality definition, analysis, design, programming functions, and documentation for assigned projects and requests. Continuous learning and professional development are emphasized, with opportunities for attending technical training courses and participating in committees to contribute to departmental initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Support departmental and organizational processes including customer support and problem resolution to ensure maximum system availability.
  • Perform high-quality definition, analysis, design, programming functions, and documentation for assigned projects and requests with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure that project solutions meet the goals and objectives of the requesting department, including designs, requests for proposals, and system modifications.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and initiative in seeking and accepting additional assignments.
  • Attend technical/professional training courses for career development and job performance.
  • Work with teams and provide constructive feedback to advance initiatives, submitting innovative ideas to improve quality or efficiency.
  • Regularly attend and participate in committee meetings, providing synopses at monthly department meetings.
  • Contribute significantly to committee work, potentially taking on leadership roles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or other relevant fields of study; equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Flexible and adaptable in learning and understanding new technologies.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • 3-4 years of experience in a related field.
