About the position

The Senior Applications Engineer at Montrose will be responsible for building conceptual designs of biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) projects while supporting business development efforts. This role is crucial in generating process solutions for anaerobic digestion biogas projects and requires collaboration with engineering, business development, and project delivery teams. The position offers an opportunity to work in a rapidly growing team focused on making a positive environmental impact.

Responsibilities

  • Build conceptual designs for biogas and RNG projects.
  • Support business development by generating process solutions for anaerobic digestion projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering, business development, and project delivery teams.
  • Evaluate customer requests and align technical designs with commercial strategies.
  • Utilize process engineering principles to design treatment solutions that meet customer criteria.
  • Identify gaps in customer specifications and work with clients to resolve them.
  • Select process equipment necessary for project criteria.
  • Consult with design engineering team to build content for customer proposals.
  • Develop preliminary project CAPEX and OPEX estimates.
  • Identify areas of risk and information needed for the next design phase.
  • Lead customer proposal development, defining scope and commercial details.
  • Provide process engineering support and lead technical handover to design engineering team.
  • Suggest improvements for Application Engineering tools and processes.
  • Identify strategic partners and support business development efforts.
  • Qualify leads and serve as a key contact for customers.
  • Schedule sales appointments and coordinate meetings with clients.
  • Attend conferences and trade shows to represent Montrose and identify new opportunities.
  • Prepare monthly reports on client opportunities and relationship status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience; minimum 2+ years in biogas/RNG.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to travel as needed (minimum 25%).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or higher degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • PE licensure or ability to achieve PE within one year.
