About the position

The AWS Infrastructure Sustainability Tech team is seeking a Sr. Applied Scientist to contribute to the research, prototyping, and delivery of customer-facing sustainability products. This role involves integrating sustainability data across AWS infrastructure and operations to support AWS customers' sustainability goals and AWS's progress towards net zero carbon goals. The successful candidate will collaborate with various teams to build innovative solutions and influence strategic decisions, making a significant impact on AWS's sustainability efforts.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative data and machine learning solutions to accelerate our business.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to design and implement software solutions for science problems.
• Lead the early investigative/inception phase of strategic sustainability initiatives and effectively influence, negotiate, and communicate with stakeholders to enable hand off of those projects for implementation.
• Build prototypes to unblock core use cases across domains.

Requirements

• 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
• PhD, or Master's degree and 5+ years of applied research experience
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
• Experience in applied research
• Experience in building machine learning models for business application

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
• Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.
• Experience with conducting research in a corporate setting
