About the position

The Senior Architect Lead - Security at Charles Schwab is a pivotal role within the Schwab Cybersecurity Services organization, responsible for defining and leading the security technology strategy across a broad portfolio of security systems. This position focuses on enhancing Schwab's security posture by developing security architecture and strategies that align with business priorities and technology advancements. The role requires extensive collaboration with senior leaders and stakeholders to influence security roadmaps and improve security capabilities at an enterprise scale.

Responsibilities

  • Define an architectural strategy and design/implementation for large complex solutions aligned with enterprise architecture.
  • Plan and prioritize technology-focused backlog items for the architecture runway in collaboration with Domain Architect/Product Manager/Owner.
  • Focus on Product Security, analyzing and directing application development within Cybersecurity.
  • Describe solution intent and operating environment, defining non-functional requirements and architectural runway.
  • Ensure solutions are fit for purpose by evaluating the impact of strategic design decisions with stakeholders and vendors.
  • Contribute to best practices, standard templates, and the architecture roadmap for security domains.
  • Interpret business, technology, and threat drivers to develop practical security capabilities.
  • Clarify architecture for development teams and provide solution options for architectural impediments.
  • Perform design reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements are met.
  • Develop security patterns, standards, and architectural decision records to secure Schwab data.
  • Liaise with other security architects and practitioners to share best practices.

Requirements

  • 4-year college/university degree required.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience designing, building, and managing security infrastructure or solutions.
  • Application development experience in cloud-native and distributed/hybrid deployment models.
  • Knowledge of multiple security domains and customer authentication processes.
  • Detailed understanding of security implications of authentication workflow decisions and processes.
  • Experience managing and developing a team of senior engineers and architects in a diverse IT environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with assessment, development, implementation, integration, optimization, and documentation of security technologies in various environments.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise security concepts/frameworks and secure design principles.
  • Familiarity with frameworks like NIST 800-53, CIS Benchmarks, ISO 27000 series, COBIT.
  • CISSP, CSSLP certification preferred.
