About the position

The Senior Architectural Designer at WSP USA will play a crucial role in the Property and Buildings team, focusing on the design and implementation of sustainable building projects. This position involves providing technical assistance for various phases of architectural projects, including planning, concept development, and construction documentation. The designer will work collaboratively with a cross-functional team to ensure high-quality outcomes that meet client objectives and adhere to industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed drawings showing both the external and internal appearance and structure of building projects.
  • Determine methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources for project development.
  • Perform professional architectural work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions.
  • Develop building construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates, coordinating with various stakeholders.
  • Incorporate advanced modeling techniques and design requirements to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Prepare data and visualizations for the interpretation or presentation of findings.
  • Maintain quality control standards for accurate measurements and documentation.
  • Assist with the development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level architects.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to explain research and findings.
  • Conduct research to assess feasibility and environmental impact of design issues.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
  • Stay current with the latest architectural techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in architecture.
  • Proficient knowledge of architectural principles and practices.
  • Experience with building planning, drawing standards, and construction management.
  • Strong creative, visualization, and technical drawing skills.
  • Working knowledge of sustainability and green building design concepts.
  • Familiarity with relevant building laws, codes, and compliance practices.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail and ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with technical writing and design software (AutoCAD, REVIT, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for data analysis and solution development.
  • Ability to direct subcontractors and ensure task completion safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Architecture or related field is preferred.
  • Professional Licensure/Certification in architecture.
