About the position

WSP is seeking a Senior Architectural Designer to join their Property and Buildings team in Portland, Maine, with consideration for other locations such as Boston, Merrimack, and Chelmsford. This role involves providing technical assistance and guidance for various architectural projects, ensuring high-quality design and compliance with industry standards. The designer will be responsible for preparing detailed drawings, conducting site inspections, developing construction plans, and collaborating with a cross-functional team to deliver innovative and sustainable building solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed drawings showing both the external and internal appearance and structure of building projects.
  • Determine methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources for project development.
  • Perform professional architectural work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions.
  • Develop building construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates, coordinating with various stakeholders.
  • Incorporate advanced modeling techniques and design requirements to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, architects, and other professionals on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Prepare data visualizations and reports for the interpretation or presentation of findings.
  • Maintain quality control standards for measurements, illustrations, and documentation.
  • Assist with the development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level architects.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to explain research and recommendations.
  • Conduct research to assess feasibility and environmental impact of design and construction issues.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
  • Stay current with the latest architectural techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in architecture.
  • Proficient knowledge of architectural principles and practices.
  • Experience with building planning, drawing standards, and construction management.
  • Strong creative, visualization, and technical drawing skills.
  • Working knowledge of sustainability and green building design concepts.
  • Familiarity with relevant building laws, codes, and compliance practices.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail and ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and guide junior team members.
  • Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, REVIT, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for data analysis and solution development.
  • Ability to direct subcontractors and ensure task completion safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety policies.
  • Flexibility to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
