About the position

Messer North America, Inc. is seeking a Senior Area Electrical Engineer to join our team in Bridgewater, NJ. This position is crucial for the operation of our extensive portfolio of industrial gas plants, which includes Air Separation Units (ASU), CO2, H2, and He facilities. The Senior Area Electrical Engineer will report to the Area Maintenance and Reliability Hub Team and will provide technical engineering support and subject matter expert (SME) recommendations for all electrical equipment and infrastructure utilized within the facilities in the area. In this role, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems across our plants, which includes working with high voltage substations, switchgear, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, and various control systems. You will also support the regions in developing detailed electrical maintenance work scopes, budgets, and execution strategies. Your expertise will be essential in identifying and assessing the effectiveness of existing condition-based monitoring tools and practices, ensuring that our electrical systems operate efficiently and safely. The Senior Area Electrical Engineer will also play a key role in the Engineering Management of Change (EMOC) process, reviewing and approving changes, and assisting local personnel in developing proper engineering documentation. You will create and review preventive maintenance procedures and ensure the quality of their execution at plant locations. Additionally, you will support operations during major maintenance, upgrades, and new plant commissioning, performing functional testing of equipment prior to startup. Your responsibilities will extend to providing technical support for large capital improvement projects, supervising electrical contractors, and ensuring compliance with electrical safety practices. Training plant personnel on NFPA 70E standards and conducting general electrical training will also be part of your duties. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical, troubleshooting and maintenance support to all ASU, CO2, H2 and He plants for all electrical issues.
  • Support the Regions with the development of detailed electrical major maintenance work scope, budget, contractor selection, and execution strategy.
  • Identify new and assess the effectiveness of existing electrically related condition-based monitoring tools and practices.
  • Provide electrical technical support, review and approval of changes using the Engineering Management of Change (EMOC) process.
  • Create or review and approve the application of electrical equipment PM's, work instructions, and related procedures.
  • Support operations in the field for major maintenance, upgrades, new plant checkout and commissioning.
  • Provide electrical equipment scope, proposal estimates, technical documents and execution support to the Project Execution team for large capital improvements projects.
  • Supervise and assess the technical competency of electrical contractors and service providers.
  • Responsible for understanding, applying and training NFPA 70E to plant personnel.
  • Perform general electrical training at site locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering experience in Operations Support, Reliability or Engineering and Installation of Industrial Process Plants, power distribution required.
  • Demonstrated exceptional operational safety leadership.
  • Proven experience in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of low/medium/high voltage substations, switchgear, transformers, motors, distribution systems and associated protection and support equipment.
