About the position

The Senior Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Research Scientist position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) involves supporting the Cyber Resilience and Intelligence Division (CRID) in enhancing national security through advanced AI and machine learning techniques. The role focuses on developing methods to detect and mitigate adversarial attacks on critical infrastructure, while also mentoring early career staff and collaborating with sponsors and funding agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical insights for program and project developments.
  • Lead teams to define and implement sponsor requirements.
  • Interact with sponsors and funding agencies from project conception, proposal writing, and project execution.
  • Mentor early career staff through both formal project, task, and technical leadership.
  • Perform research & development at levels ranging from proof-of-concept development to software/system architecture.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 6 years' experience in government service or private industry, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience leading teams and performing research in artificial intelligence/machine learning for cybersecurity, signal processing, biometrics, digital forensics, and/or computer vision for national security applications.
  • Proven track record managing and executing funding at both relatively low levels.
