About the position

The Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Caltech is a full-time, benefits-eligible position responsible for recruiting and evaluating candidates for undergraduate admission. This role involves managing the international admissions process, overseeing the Discover Caltech program, and leading partnerships with scientific competitions. The position requires substantial programmatic responsibilities with minimal oversight, focusing on yield and special projects within the Undergraduate Admissions Office.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a substantial admissions program or function focused on yield and special projects.
  • Manage the international admissions process of the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
  • Oversee the Discover Caltech (DiscoTech) program for admitted students.
  • Lead partnerships with various scientific competitions globally.
  • Mentor junior Admissions staff.
  • Develop fluency with Technolutions Slate, the Admissions CRM.
  • Collaborate with campus offices and represent the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
  • Counsel students and conduct presentations about Caltech undergraduate life and admissions policies.
  • Plan and execute an effective recruitment travel plan targeting promising candidates.
  • Travel for 4-6 weeks during the fall months, including international travel.
  • Build and maintain relationships with high school counselors, alumni, faculty, and staff.
  • Evaluate and recommend admission decisions on competitive applications.
  • Carry out other admissions-related projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required with familiarity in undergraduate admissions activities.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in undergraduate admissions or related field.
  • Demonstrated track record in recruiting and enrolling a diverse student population.
  • Professional skills in admissions, enrollment, and selection processes.
  • Ability to represent the Institute with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Manage expectations of a high-anxiety customer base.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and associated professional software.
  • Understanding of technology in assessing and improving division systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with integrity and ethics.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and judgment skills.
