About the position

The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Finance & Business Operations at Penn State University is responsible for the comprehensive management of strategic budget and financial operations within Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA). This role involves serving as a strategic thought partner to the Director of Athletics, identifying opportunities for operational efficiency, revenue growth, and capital planning. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure financial stability and compliance with university guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Finance and Business leadership team.
  • Work with the Director of Athletics to manage all aspects of the departmental budget, including operations, compensation, scholarships, and capital projects.
  • Partner with internal department leaders to manage the budget, analyzing revenue and expense opportunities.
  • Serve as the strategic financial thought partner in capital planning efforts, developing financial projections for current and future investments.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor fiscal operations, including policies and procedures for financial stability.
  • Assist in developing annual revenue goals and monitor progress among revenue-generating units; establish KPIs for performance reporting.
  • Manage department capital-project funding and financing, ensuring maintenance budgets are incorporated into ICA budgets.
  • Oversee data gathering for annual EADA and NCAA reporting.
  • Manage ICA Business Office staff, developing responsibilities and reporting lines for efficiency.
  • Communicate and monitor budget processes and reporting effectively.
  • Serve as liaison with various University departments as directed by the Senior Vice President of Finance and Business and Director of Athletics.
  • Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to advance the strategic mission of ICA.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of senior-level accounting, finance, and reporting experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience in a senior-level role in a large intercollegiate athletics department.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Strategic thinker with exceptional planning and communication skills.
  • Inquisitive and detail-oriented.
