About the position

The Senior Associate Athletic Director of External Affairs at Furman University plays a pivotal role in the leadership team of the Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics. This position is responsible for providing strategic oversight and management of external operations that drive revenue for Furman Athletics. Key responsibilities include revenue generation, marketing, communications, and enhancing the game day experience, with a focus on community engagement in Greenville and Upstate South Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Chief Revenue Officer for Furman Athletics.
  • Supervise Athletics Marketing and Promotions, Game Day Experience, Athletics Communications, and the Athletic Ticket Office.
  • Coordinate the vision and strategic planning for all external initiatives.
  • Oversee the Timmons Arena renovation revenue generation plan and manage strategic partners.
  • Drive strategies to increase attendance at home athletics contests, particularly for revenue sports.
  • Act as the primary liaison with the athletics multimedia rights holder to maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Facilitate communication between all external units to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Develop and execute the fundraising strategy for annual gifts in partnership with the Associate AD - Director of Athletics Development and Alumni Relations.
  • Collaborate with University Advancement to promote engagement and philanthropy.
  • Design and implement strategies to strengthen Furman Athletics' brand regionally and nationally.
  • Implement innovative approaches to revenue generation in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Work with the Athletics Business Office on contractual agreements regarding media rights and external agreements.
  • Strengthen relationships with alumni, parents, and friends to enhance support for athletics programs.
  • Represent the athletics department at public events when necessary.
  • Create plans to engage fans and drive excitement during postseason competition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Self-confidence, strong organizational skills, and effective time management skills.
  • Ability to represent the University effectively and work in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 5 years of managerial experience in college athletics with a focus on revenue generation.
  • Working knowledge of best practices in college athletics and fundraising.
  • Leadership ability with creativity and innovation.
  • Experience in delivering presentations to diverse audiences.
