About the position

NYU's Stern School of Business has an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Associate Director, Special Events. The selected candidate will act as a liaison between the Special Events Department and other Departments, Centers, and Program Areas. They will conceptualize themes, research requests, assess feasibility, make recommendations, conduct vendor and venue negotiations, and ensure logistics are prepared, including security, AV, transport, and more. The selected candidate will also share event planning acumen and institutional knowledge with other staff members, handle complex projects and assignments that require substantive job knowledge, and direct office operations in the absence of and/or in tandem with the Director. This role is crucial in ensuring that all special events align with the strategic goals of the Stern School of Business and enhance the overall experience for attendees and stakeholders alike.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between the Special Events Department and other Departments, Centers, and Program Areas.
  • Conceptualize themes for events and research requests.
  • Assess feasibility of event proposals and make recommendations.
  • Conduct vendor and venue negotiations to secure the best options for events.
  • Ensure all logistics are prepared, including security, AV, transport, and more.
  • Share event planning acumen and institutional knowledge with other staff members.
  • Handle complex projects and assignments that require substantive job knowledge.
  • Direct office operations in the absence of and/or in tandem with the Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in special events planning, site selection, theme development, menu planning, vendor negotiations, staff supervision, and budget management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong customer service skills with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to solve problems in real time and manage multiple demands effectively.
