As a Senior Associate Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering a variety of user stories while recognizing technology patterns and collaborating on potential approaches. This position is designed to accelerate your technical knowledge through hands-on experience with engineering teammates. You will actively manage and escalate risks and customer-impacting issues that arise in your day-to-day responsibilities, ensuring that our infrastructure remains robust and responsive to the needs of our users. In this role, you will be independently accountable for identifying and responding to onsite risks and high-priority issues. This includes troubleshooting incidents, managing shift turnover, and overseeing incident queues. You will work closely with the Product Owner, Service Owner, and Subject Matter Experts to validate the context of requirements and execute individual user stories related to onsite data center systems. This encompasses critical system installations, data room moves, decommissions, reconfigurations, and power down events in the data center. You will have the opportunity to contribute to design decisions and gain experience in understanding the trade-offs related to OSI Model Layer 1 Infrastructure design, implementation, and documentation. Your role will also involve applying knowledge of various facilities and security components in the data center, defining and evaluating team documentation for process improvement, and participating in agile ceremonies. As you execute a variety of user stories across different stages of the product lifecycle, you will engage in the adoption of new technologies and continue your professional education to enhance your craftsmanship in engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Independently accountable for identifying and responding to onsite risks and high-priority issues rapidly and effectively.
  • Troubleshooting incidents, managing shift turnover, and overseeing incident queues.
  • Working with the Product Owner, Service Owner, and Subject Matter Experts to validate requirements and execute user stories related to onsite data center systems.
  • Executing critical system installs, data room moves, decommissions, reconfigurations, and onsite data center power down events.
  • Contributing opinions to design decisions and understanding design trade-offs related to OSI Model Layer 1 Infrastructure.
  • Identifying the basic building blocks and components of data centers and OSI Model Layer 1 Infrastructure.
  • Applying knowledge of various facilities and security components in the data center.
  • Defining and evaluating team documentation for process improvement.
  • Contributing to team agile ceremonies, leading demos and presentations, and helping new engineers learn established norms.
  • Using automation, system tools, open-source solutions, and security principles in daily work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Security, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, or related fields.
  • Technical proficiency rating of advanced beginner on the Dreyfus engineering scale for internal applicants.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1-3+ years' experience deploying and maintaining complex data center environments.
  • Understanding of indoor/outdoor cable plants, including copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Knowledge of information technology infrastructure components (LAN/WAN/SAN, firewalls, servers, storage, etc.).
  • Knowledge of EIA/TIA, IEEE, NEC, and ISO standards relating to data centers and structured cabling.
  • Strong documentation skills to capture architecture details and procedures.
  • Data center and/or networking industry certifications.
