About the position

The Senior Associate, Mechanical Engineer at L3Harris is responsible for performing a variety of engineering tasks related to the development, improvement, and testing of image intensifier tubes used in night vision technology. This role emphasizes optimizing manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. The engineer will lead projects, provide technical support to production lines, and ensure compliance with government regulations while maintaining product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed mechanical design of tooling and fixturing for manufacturing automation.
  • Review and identify improvements for ergonomics, efficiency, and FOD reduction in existing tooling and fixtures.
  • Generate design documentation and technical data packages, including engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare materials for internal design reviews and present projects to management teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Monitor product and process quality, establish standards, and validate manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain compliance with government regulations to uphold product and company reputation.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers as needed.
  • Provide production support including test fixture designs, troubleshooting, and process control improvements.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere through cooperative communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or a Graduate Degree with 0 to 2 years of experience, or 6 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks or NX.
  • Understanding of GD&T application and interpretation.
  • Proficient in generating and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of physics, engineering mechanics, fatigue, and mechanics of materials.
  • Understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, dynamics, and vibration.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods and lean principles.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance within 1 year of start date.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with Design for Automation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis tools and methods.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
