About the position

As a Senior Audit Manager at USAA, you will oversee Bank Fraud Management, Dispute Operations, and general banking engagements related to fraud. Your role will involve leading audit engagements, enhancing knowledge of fraud and financial crimes, and ensuring compliance with internal and external standards. You will manage strategic initiatives, develop risk-based audit plans, and collaborate with various stakeholders to improve internal controls and mitigate risks.

Responsibilities

  • Manage audit engagement-related efforts and assignments of staff with varying degrees of expertise.
  • Independently prepare, review, and lead continuous monitoring and advisory activities.
  • Ensure assigned audit engagements are completed objectively and professionally.
  • Approve the engagement risk and control matrix and scope of the audit for final review.
  • Proactively identify control weaknesses and opportunities for improvement.
  • Draft audit issues and reports for issuance to client leadership.
  • Lead team activities and provide feedback on audit activities.
  • Build and enhance client relationships across the organization.
  • Communicate effectively with business/clients and regulators.
  • Provide recommendations on staffing assignments and guidance to staff members.
  • Participate in the development of the Audit annual plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or relevant field such as Finance, Accounting, Business, or Information Technology.
  • 8 years of audit, financial, insurance, banking, information technology or related business and/or leadership experience.
  • Experience performing internal audits or applying audit, risk, or compliance acumen in a complex environment.
  • Broad experience in Audit theory and internal audit principles.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively communicating and challenging Controls with business partners.
  • Understanding of risks and internal controls and the ability to evaluate their adequacy.
  • Experience in mentoring and providing feedback to audit team members.
  • Experience in overseeing work with both internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience working in a fraud-related role for a large financial institution.
  • Knowledge of specific industry frameworks and standards such as Reg Z, Reg E, Reg B, etc.
  • Experience with compliance requirements including OCC Heightened Standards and CFPB.
  • Fraud-related certification (e.g., CFE, CAMS, CAFS) or degree in fraud or related discipline.
