About the position

The Senior Audit Manager for Bank Fraud Management and Claims Operations at USAA is responsible for overseeing audit engagements related to fraud, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards. This role involves managing audit teams, enhancing internal controls, and collaborating with business units to mitigate risks. The position requires a deep understanding of fraud-related regulations and the ability to influence business practices to improve operational integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Bank Fraud Management, Dispute Operations, and general banking engagements involving fraud.
  • Lead audit engagements as Auditor-In-Charge (AIC) and ensure quality of audit work.
  • Continuously enhance knowledge of fraud, financial crimes, and related consumer regulations.
  • Provide oversight to multiple audit engagements and participate in planning, fieldwork, and reporting.
  • Influence business and clients regarding effective internal controls and risk mitigation.
  • Independently prepare, review, and lead continuous monitoring and advisory activities.
  • Identify control weaknesses and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with business clients and regulators, delivering risk-based messages.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to audit team members and ensure quality deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Business, or Information Technology.
  • 8 years of audit, financial, insurance, banking, or related experience.
  • Experience performing internal or external audits in a complex regulatory environment.
  • Broad experience in audit theory and internal audit principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating and challenging controls with business partners.
  • Understanding of risks and internal controls, with the ability to evaluate their adequacy.
  • Experience mentoring and providing feedback to audit team members.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in a fraud-related role for a large financial institution.
  • Knowledge of industry frameworks and standards such as Reg Z, Reg E, and UDAAP.
  • Fraud-related certification (e.g., CFE, CAMS) or advanced degree in fraud or forensic accounting.
