About the position

The Senior Auditor plays a crucial role in assisting the City of Wilmington in achieving its financial and operational objectives by independently examining the City's internal control systems. This position involves collaborating with various city departments to ensure effective and efficient operations, documenting transaction cycles, evaluating internal controls, and reporting findings to improve the City's systems of control.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with all levels of employees within various city departments.
• Document major City transaction cycles and assess internal controls.
• Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the City's internal control systems through observation, inquiry, and testing.
• Write audit reports that include findings, recommendations, and management responses.
• Conduct audits and perform all related audit work as required.
• Act as an In Charge auditor, planning audits and supervising other auditors.
• Assist in developing the annual risk-based internal audit plan for presentation to the Audit Review Committee.
• Monitor and report on the status of outstanding management action plans quarterly.

Requirements

• Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
• At least two years of accounting and/or auditing experience in private, non-profit, or governmental sectors.
• Knowledge of professional accounting and auditing principles, standards, practices, and applicable laws.
• Working knowledge of audit tools such as ACL, Power Bi, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is desirable but not required.
