About the position

The Senior Automation Engineer plays a pivotal role in the design, implementation, and support of industrial control systems. This position requires close collaboration with clients to understand their specific requirements and develop innovative solutions utilizing state-of-the-art automation technology. The engineer will be responsible for specifying automation and electrical components and software to meet customer specifications, application requirements, and industrial standards. In day-to-day operations, the Senior Automation Engineer will design and configure PLC programs aimed at optimizing performance or resolving complex control issues. They will also support the commissioning and startup of control systems, demonstrating the ability to identify and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software issues effectively. Providing both on-site and remote support for installed systems is essential, including technical service assistance, troubleshooting, and repairs. The engineer will determine the root cause of failures across electrical, mechanical, and software domains and implement solutions to prevent recurrence. Additionally, the role involves organizing and maintaining project files to ensure accurate documentation and efficient project management. The Senior Automation Engineer will work collaboratively with project managers and the engineering manager to schedule and prioritize tasks effectively. A key aspect of this position is leading and training other automation engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Specify automation and electrical components and software to meet customer specifications, application requirements, and industrial standards.
  • Design and configure PLC programs to optimize performance or resolve complex controls issues.
  • Support commissioning and startup of control systems, identifying and resolving electrical, mechanical, and software issues.
  • Provide on-site and remote support for installed systems, including technical service assistance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Determine the root cause of electrical, mechanical, and software failures and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Organize and maintain project files to ensure accurate documentation and efficient project management.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers and the engineering manager to schedule and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Lead and train other automation engineers to foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in the design and implementation of industrial control systems or control panels, with a strong background in PLC programming.
  • AS/BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology or demonstrated experience in the industry.
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following automation platforms: Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, GE, Omron, Automation Direct, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion, ABB 800xA, FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Tatsoft, Ignition, iFix, Wonderware, as well as AC drives, DC drives, motion control, robotics, machine vision, and functional safety.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
