About the position

The Senior Automation Engineer - Mechanical at Garmin International is responsible for designing and implementing complex automated and robotic systems to enhance manufacturing operations and enable Smart Factory initiatives. This role involves leading projects, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating across various engineering disciplines to develop innovative automation solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Create complex automated and robotic systems and applications.
  • Lead moderately complex projects, coordinating efforts across multiple automation engineering leads.
  • Review moderately complex designs and make recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce automation and new technology within Operations.
  • Create equipment and application documentation, including operating instructions and user manuals.
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced Automation Engineers.
  • Participate in recruiting activities as assigned.
  • Utilize engineering design tools, particularly CAD software, to create modeling standards and review feature trees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expert level knowledge of engineering design tools and CAD software.
  • Proficiency in programming software to provide innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with various business segments.
  • Demonstrated ability to research problems and implement appropriate solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Smart Factory technologies.
  • Familiarity with robotics and automation standards.
  • Previous mentoring or leadership experience in engineering.
