The Senior Automation Engineer is a pivotal role within Owens Corning, responsible for the creation, development, and deployment support of the next generation technology strategy for manufacturing process automation. The individual in this role will leverage their technical expertise to establish enterprise standards and work closely with IT departments to develop reliable and scalable manufacturing IT/OT system architecture. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Senior Automation Engineer will represent Owens Corning externally at trade and industry associations and regulatory forums. This involves influencing the progress of industry codes and standards, generating customer excitement and interest, and monitoring market trends that could impact the business segments' future. Responsibilities

  • Understand the positioning of products in the marketplace and industry automation trends.
  • Partner with customers and stakeholders to scope new solutions and translate needs into innovation opportunities.
  • Engage in project planning teams to identify automation opportunities and deliver strategic objectives.
  • Establish factory and laboratory examples of robotics and automation solutions for scaling and deployment.
  • Introduce new or improve existing automation solutions in factory production lines.
  • Provide technology support for the direction of the automation portfolio and leverage assets for growth.
  • Build rapport and develop partnerships across the organization, including Science & Technology, IT, and Operations.
  • Apply mechatronic solutions to the transfer of materials, components, or finished goods.
  • Leverage Open Innovation and Lean Startup methodologies for technology commercialization.
  • Collaborate on Lean Startup and TPM methodologies to drive rapid innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering.
  • 5-10 years of experience in the development and deployment of automation technology.
  • Deep understanding of sensors, robotics, IT/OT systems, and various controls for automated systems.
  • Proficiency with process integration and mechatronic systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in science or engineering.
  • Strong background in process development and/or product innovation.
  • Technical experience in manufacturing or deploying automation with knowledge of current automation technologies.
  • Experience in developing specific automation manufacturing systems with flexible and modular automation.
  • Proficiency in Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC programming.
