As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading the development of systems and projects, integrating designs into large-scale development initiatives while managing both schedule and cost implications. This position is ideal for candidates with a proven track record in product development from concept to implementation, ensuring that innovative solutions are delivered effectively and efficiently. In this role, you will evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to lead product design and development. You will be responsible for the selection and testing of electrical components, preparation of specifications, and design of testing procedures. Your expertise will be crucial in leading control system design and implementation, which includes both software and hardware aspects of engineering projects. Collaboration with other team members is essential as you work to integrate designs with large scope development projects, providing leadership for new products through innovative solutions. You will also be tasked with executing multiple projects concurrently, developing and managing priorities to ensure timely completion of tasks. As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will identify opportunities for product improvements and cost reductions, supporting the engineering of core systems across multiple platforms. You will function as a technical resource to other team members and maintain focus on continuous improvement by researching and sourcing innovative, cost-efficient business solutions. Compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, electrical codes, UL standards, local regulatory laws, and company safety policies is a critical aspect of this role, ensuring that all work is executed in accordance with standard procedures and policies. Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of this position at any time, reflecting the dynamic nature of the engineering field.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Lead product design and development, including selection and testing of electrical components.
  • Prepare specifications and design testing procedures, calculations, and reports with support from leadership.
  • Lead control system design and implementation, including software and hardware for engineering projects.
  • Integrate designs with large scope development projects in collaboration with team members.
  • Provide leadership for new products through innovative solutions and present alternative solutions based on various criteria.
  • Execute tasks among multiple projects concurrently and develop/manage priorities for timely completion.
  • Design effective product solutions and identify opportunities for product improvements and cost reductions.
  • Support engineering of core systems across multiple platforms and function as a technical resource to team members.
  • Maintain CAD, product data management, program data management, and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Focus on continuous improvement by researching and sourcing innovative, cost-efficient business solutions.
  • Comply with all applicable OSHA, EPA, electrical codes, UL standards, local regulatory laws, and company safety policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Associates degree in a relatable field with equivalent experience will be accepted.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with machine programming, with PLC programming (IEC 61131-3) preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with electrical design CAD packages, with Solidworks Electrical preferred.
  • Experience with Beckhoff Automation hardware and software or similar platforms.
  • Capable of design and development of machine control software and electrical control assemblies.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical layouts and components.
  • Knowledge of various types of manufacturing equipment and their limitations preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate and interact with multiple teams and departments.
  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC NFPA 70), NFPA 79 - Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery, UL Standard 508.
  • Experience in a LEAN environment is preferred.
  • Exposure to testing development, execution, and interpretation.
  • Minimal travel required with limited notice to assist with field equipment problems or related engineering activities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining organization and focus on accuracy of execution.
