About the position

The Senior AV Test Technician reports directly to the Autonomous Vehicle Test Operations Manager. They will aid in the daily operations of the Advanced Testing Facility to verify and validate the performance and safety characteristics of the entire Autonomous Vehicle system and subsystems (including software, robotic arm, sensor suite, and the electric vehicle platform). The Senior Autonomous Vehicle Test Technician will shoulder responsibilities that exceed the expectations of an entry level technician. They are to be vastly knowledgeable about all technical aspects of Test Operations. The ability to troubleshoot issues as well as aid in troubleshooting issues experienced by other technicians is paramount to this role. The senior technician will be a resource of knowledge to all other technicians and will play a critical role in the training of incoming technicians. A successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic work environment. Possessing the necessary skill sets required to operate multiple robotic test assets simultaneously while debugging issues during constantly-changing test and development efforts. This position plays an essential role in helping to deliver a safety-critical system for industrial automation. Responsibilities

  • Lead all shift activity of the day
  • Assist in the creation of work instructions and standard operating procedures
  • Be an additional source of knowledge for Technicians and Operators
  • Own shift startup and scheduling of testing activity throughout the shift
  • Assist with the communication of company goals and objectives to the Test Ops teams
  • Be a tier one resource during the course of all troubleshooting conducted during a given shift
  • Execute system test missions on the autonomous trucks at Outrider's Advanced Testing Facility to verify and validate the performance and safety characteristics of the entire system and subsystems, including software, robotic arm, sensor suite, and the electric vehicle platform
  • Operate and monitor several software tools simultaneously during test execution, and perform root-cause analyses to document issues found during testing
  • Effectively communicate test results and issues to the AV Test Operations Manager as well as fellow technicians and applicable Engineering teams members
  • Be an additional Safety Steward during the shift, Supporting the AV Test Operation Manager in the promotion of a safety conscious work environment
  • Aid Engineering and Commercial teams in conducting product demonstrations for customer, investor, and media audiences at Outrider's Advanced Testing Facility
  • Support all engineering functions (design, hardware, software, integration, systems and testing) by providing vehicle-level test data that is accurate, trusted, and on-time
  • Help train new Autonomous Vehicle Test Technicians and Autonomous Vehicle Test Operators
  • Use, and optimize yard operations workflows with the Outrider user interface, assigning trailer move requests to all autonomous yard trucks
  • Stay actively involved and informed with the Engineering teams to maintain understanding of changes to vehicles, tools, and software to ensure tests are executed correctly
  • Travel as needed to perform field work, training, or customer support (up to 20%)
  • Pinpoint issues observed during operation from the system level down to sub-system, mechanical, and software components
  • Work cross-functionally to improve core system performance and self-diagnosis to aide long-term field support
  • Analyze the system design and help develop system and safety requirements
  • Collaborate with software development team on functional safety for a fail-operational autonomous driving system
  • Develop and execute test plans and procedures for testing self-driving vehicles
  • Collaborate with the engineering development and operations teams to verify and validate self driving vehicle systems
  • Analyze and document test methods, procedures, and results

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Management or the equivalent experience in a similar technical discipline
  • 2 years experience testing automotive products, aerospace products, autonomous vehicles/trucks, robotic systems or other automated distribution yard products
  • 2 years experience working in a highly talented R&D, system test, or engineering environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sterling references
  • 2 years experience with reliability or durability testing of robotic systems, autonomous vehicles, or other automation products
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux and command-line interface operations

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with ROS, C++ and Python
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, and Google Suites
  • Experience with the software development life cycle, modern software/hardware/system testing methods, and continuous integration
