About the position

The Senior AWS Database Administrator at Medtronic is responsible for managing and maintaining Oracle databases, particularly within AWS RDS environments. This role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, and security of databases while leading database migration projects and collaborating with development teams to optimize application performance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain Oracle databases, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
  • Administer Oracle databases within the AWS RDS environment, including provisioning, backups, scaling, and replication.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance using Oracle tools and AWS RDS features.
  • Implement and test disaster recovery strategies for Oracle databases in AWS.
  • Lead database migration projects, including migration from on-premises to AWS RDS.
  • Ensure database security by managing user access, encryption, and other security features.
  • Work closely with development teams to optimize database queries, schema design, and overall application performance.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for database environments, processes, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 7 years of experience as an Oracle DBA.
  • Strong experience with AWS RDS, particularly with Oracle databases.
  • Proficiency in Oracle database administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge and experience of Oracle Data Guard, Physical Standby, Logical Standby, dataguard broker.
  • Expert level working knowledge of RMAN.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Technologies such as Partition, TAF, DATAPUMP, SQL/PLSQL, Indexes, Patching etc.
  • Experience with data migration and replication strategies.
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, S3, and IAM.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • AWS Certified Database - Specialty or similar certification.
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of additional database technologies (MySQL, Snowflake).
